What is Untangle?
Untangle is a quiet rope puzzle. Every rope is tied into two holes on a board, and the ropes cross each other. The goal is to move ends until no two ropes cross.
That is the whole rule. There is no timer counting down and no way to lose.
How does Untangle work?
Take hold of a rope end and drag it to an empty hole. A rope that is moved is lifted over the others and laid on top, so the order of moves is the puzzle. The board shows how many crossings are left, and every crossing is marked.
Boards start with three ropes and nine holes, and ropes are added slowly. Every twenty-fifth level from fifty onward is a long board, to be worked a section at a time with pinch to zoom.
Can every board be solved?
Yes. Each board is built in its solved state first and only then scrambled, so a solution exists before the board is handed over. A hint points at one rope and one hole when the board stops making sense, and par is the fewest moves a board can be cleared in, found by search.
Is Untangle free, and does it have ads?
The listing says there are no advertisements and no in-app purchases. There is also no account and no sign-in. Settings has one optional reminder for Today's Knot, off unless turned on.
Does Untangle need internet?
No. The release build ships without permission to use the internet, so nothing can be sent anywhere. Progress, points and the streak are kept on the phone, and uninstalling takes them with it.
